Along with Pinterest, I've joined this fabulous Houzz site.  Many of my humble~home inspirations come from this source also.

    Above photo: I love how the designer used the large vase on the table.  I stay with neutral colors on walls and furniture; easy to change out pillows/throws/curtains/rugs~~would be easy to add a rug under those chairs and change out the pillows for blues or browns~~

Old Table and Dried Roses~~

Finally finished painting my bargain side table.  Pay no attention to this rug!  I'm changing it out for a brown and aqua rug soon in this room~~reason for painting this table and another one to match.  I hope to get better pictures next week of my "before and after"~~   

After sanding the table top portion, I used a darker stain; next week I'll put a sealer on. 

I love little dried roses~~these were left over from a bouquet last week; could not bear to throw them out just yet.  I have this little vignette on the shelf near the computer~~

Do you dry flowers?  I like tucking them into little apothecary jars~~sweet reminders of summer and garden.  The Sweet Annie is more than ready to cut and dry~~will be bundling bouquets of it for my booth this next week.

Metallic Paint vs Mirror Paint

This is a $3.00 old porch lantern I took apart; spray painted the metal with a bronze~brown:  I wanted to experiment with metallic paint (on the inside of the glass) before using the very EXPENSIVE Krylon "looking glass" mirror paint~~it didn't turn out too bad~~

Here's the "before" lantern~~

The "stars" are etched into the glass and could not be removed~~but, will be appropriate for winter candles and Christmas!

I cleaned the glass first; then spritzed with water and immediately used the metallic spray paint; the idea is create the "mercury glass look" but, the metallic spray paint gives a frosted effect; still very pretty and "antique~y" looking~~

MIRROR PAINT: small can cost me $11.99

METALLIC PAINT:  $3.99

Thus~~why I was trying a "cheaper version" before using the mirror paint on a bigger project.

Below:  look at these two, huge beauties (complete with dirt, dust and bird poop I noticed while sitting on my rug!)~~ they'll get a good scrubbing.

I'm going to tape off the beveled glass areas; paint the bronze~brown over the metal portions~~then use the EXPENSIVE mirror paint on the inside of the glass.

I'll do these next week and picture my progress!

Locally, it's hard to get the mirror paint~~our Walmart did not have it, neither did Home Depot, Ace Hardware, but I'm going to request the local stores to try and order it.  Anyway~~

$64.00 Question~~

I love the color of the above chandelier~~maybe just plain white shades or no shades~~~

This is what happens when you stay up too late and browse/shop the internet.  However~~  I think I got a decent bargain for $64.17 from Lighting Universe:


The above picture is NOT the chandelier I purchased~~but, it is a better photo than the one taken from the website of the one I bought (below)~~I know it's going to be that ugly gold color~~I have a plan to spray paint with bronze~browns for a "Tuscany" look; and may or may not use white fabric shades.

Apple Cider Jug

Can you tolerate one more cheap, crafty idea for autumn?  I bought some apple cider jugs and spray painted the white lids with brown spray paint to make them look antique~vintage~~

Added some fall looking faux berries and used some of jute binding around the base portion (hot glued the back side to adhere to the bottle)~~

Used a simple bird and twig stencil~~~

Love these faux acorns I stupidly purchased at a store last week when I could get the real thing for FREE at the local park!   Makes sweet bowl~fillers on the side table.
